Indiana architects and engineers have a ton of cool projects going on, but we wanted to hear about the ones that got them most excited. So, we put out the call to firms throughout the state for their input on the coolest architecture and engineering projects that have taken place in the last few years.
No requirements in terms of project cost, scale, location, or industry. We simply wanted the experts to tell us about the most exciting and interesting projects they’ve recently worked on. Their responses did not disappoint. Check out what Wightman shared with us:

The STREAM Lab project developed for Bishop Noll Institute by Wightman involved the transformation of an underused indoor-swimming-pool-turned-activity-center into a dynamic learning space. Each element of the 7,170-square-foot project aligns with the school’s vision of providing outstanding STREAM (science, technology, religion, engineering, art, and mathematics) education.
The new Prototype Lab features 3D printers and fabrication tools and offers hands-on learning and problem-solving space. The maker space, highlighted by one-meter grid outlines on the floor and elevated experiment platform, provides a location where students test projects and solve design problems. The second-story mezzanine was transformed into small group collaboration space with a spiral staircase suitable for experiments.
By repurposing space instead of adding, Wightman and its partners kept the project within the $1.45 million budget and reduced demolition waste. Additional “green” features further contribute to cost efficiency, including reduced energy consumption with new high-efficiency HVAC and use of skylight for daylighting.
