Ascension St. Vincent is investing $325 million to expand the system’s flagship campus at 86th Street in Indianapolis. The expansion at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital will include:
Specialty care for women and infants
The co-location of women’s services on the 86th Street campus in Indianapolis is critical, as it allows Ascension St. Vincent Hospital to continue offering the highest level of care for both moms and babies in Indiana by maintaining its certification as a Level IV Maternal and Neonatal Intensive Care (NICU) facility. Ascension St. Vincent Women’s Hospital is home to the largest NICU in the state of Indiana, and to meet the statewide demand for its personalized and compassionate care for newborns, the new location will include 109 private NICU rooms. This makes it possible for moms and babies to be together with very special care planned by an OB nurse navigator in conjunction with the Maternal Fetal Medicine specialists, NICU physicians and pediatric specialists.
Regional destination for brain and spine care
Together with Goodman Campbell Brain and Spine, Ascension St. Vincent is developing a regional destination for neurosurgery with primary focuses on clinical excellence, patient experience and innovation. A new dedicated brain and spine hospital will be constructed at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis and include the integration of the Goodman Campbell Brain and Spine research institute and the establishment of a residency training program.
The new hospital will complement the existing Level 1 Trauma Center at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital, as well as the pediatric neurosurgery program, where the number of nationally recognized pediatric neurosurgery providers on staff has recently doubled. Due to the significant growth and demand for dedicated neuroscience clinical spaces – including operating rooms, an ICU, and an intensive care step-down unit – the new brain and spine hospital will be important for both Indiana and the Midwest region.
The addition of a new brain and spine hospital to the 86th Street campus and Ascension St. Vincent's ongoing expansion of the pediatric neurosurgery program, as well as its pursuit to become the only hospital in the state of Indiana to offer Level 1 Trauma for both adults and children, are foundational elements of the overall plan to make Ascension St. Vincent Hospital the destination for complex neurosurgical care.

Both of these substantial construction projects, as well as the investment in a new and larger parking garage and a considerable amount of additional surface parking, are driven by Ascension St. Vincent’s dedication to providing an exceptional patient and visitor experience.
