ArcelorMittal USA announced its latest cohort of 14 nonprofit partners to receive funding from the company’s special community investment program, “Building Resilience: Investing in Nonprofit Sustainability.”
Six Indiana area organizations – Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Northwest Indiana, Duneland Family YMCA, Lake Area United Way, One Region, Porter County Parks Foundation and Society of Innovators– were among the 14 recipients of grants totaling $325,000.
The program invests in areas of nonprofit management that are traditionally underfunded by foundations and corporations yet could have a significant impact on the long-term sustainability of the nonprofit organization. These areas include strategic planning; professional development; sustainability planning; diversity and inclusion training; technology implementation and data management; and fundraising enhancement or expansion.
- Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Northwest Indiana serves 10,000 youth annually in 10 clubs throughout Lake and Porter Counties, Indiana. With renovation plans underway at the East Chicago club, the Building Resilience grant will fund technology infrastructure to support its educational programming, as well as a new security/digital surveillance system to enhance the club’s safety.
- Duneland Family YMCA strives to nurture the potential of every child and teen, improve health and well-being, and give back and provide support to the community. With ArcelorMittal funding, they will send four executive staff members to the North American YMCA Development Organization (NAYDO) Conference in Indianapolis. The training offered at NAYDO will advance their fundraising skills which will contribute to the long-term sustainability of the organization.
- Lake Area United Way improves lives by mobilizing the caring power of our community to advance the common good. Lake Area United Way is building their capacity to strengthen their market position and deliver greater impact across Northwest Indiana. Resilience funding will support their strategic planning and implementation process.
- One Region strives to grow population, attract and retain talent, and increase household in Lake, Porter and LaPorte Counties in Indiana. With ArcelorMittal’s Building Resilience support, One Region will hire a contractor to work with the executive director (serving as their sole staff member) to build a strategic plan focused on expanding staffing capacity.
- Porter County Parks Foundation supports the work of the Porter County Parks and Recreation Department, including the goals of increased resiliency and sustainability for the county parks. With their Building Resilience grant, the organization will hire a consultant to conduct a sustainability audit and develop a comprehensive sustainability plan in the areas of environmental, program and organizational sustainability.
- Society of Innovators aims to contribute to economic and community development throughout the region as the champion of innovation in Northwest Indiana. Using the Northwest Indiana Forum's IGNITE plan as a benchmark for implementation, the Society of Innovators will use their Building Resilience funding to develop a strategic plan to position them for success in regional economic development and ensure that they enhance, champion and drive the culture of innovation in Northwest Indiana.
