Amazon is excited to announce the opening of its delivery station in Merrillville. The 190,000 square foot facility located at 9751 Massachusetts Drive is the company’s seventh delivery station in Indiana. In celebration of the station’s launch, Amazon donated 100 pre-filled backpacks to St. Jude’s House to support back to school supplies for students in the local area.
Delivery stations power the last mile of Amazon’s order process and help speed up deliveries for customers. Packages are shipped to a delivery station from neighboring fulfillment and sortation centers, loaded into delivery vehicles and delivered to customers.
“We care about the communities where we operate which is why we’re proud to have created more than 20,000 jobs in Indiana since 2010,” said Kayla Traister, Merrillville delivery station senior manager. “These jobs support communities of all sizes, from large cities like Indianapolis to small towns like Merrillville. We’re excited to continue our growth by investing, inventing, and creating jobs that help individuals, families, and neighbors thrive across the Hoosier State.”
The delivery stations will create hundreds of full and part-time employee jobs in addition to hundreds of driver opportunities for Amazon’s Delivery Service Partners and Amazon Flex drivers. Employees are paid on average $17.00 per hour and receive comprehensive benefits, paid time off, up to 20 weeks fully paid parental leave, education and skills training, and opportunities for career growth. Amazon is committed to empowering employees by providing them access to the education and training they need to grow their careers at Amazon and beyond. The company-funded upskilling programs help support Amazon employees as they gain critical skills to advance their careers and move into in-demand, higher paying, technical and nontechnical roles.
Delivery stations offer entrepreneurs the opportunity to build their own business delivering Amazon packages, as well as independent contractors the flexibility to be their own boss and create their own schedule delivering for Amazon Flex.
Over the last decade, Amazon has invested more than $15 billion across the state, including infrastructure and compensation. These investments have contributed an additional $13 billion into the Indiana economy and have helped create 29,000 indirect jobs on top of direct hires – from jobs in construction and logistics to professional services. In addition, more than 22,000 independent authors and small and medium businesses in Indiana are selling to customers in the company's store, creating thousands of additional jobs across the state.
