The Excel Center Coming to Hammond

Goodwill LEADS, Inc. announces that The Excel Center, a tuition free high school for adults, will open in Hammond later this year.

The Excel Center serves students 18 and older with year round accelerated classes. Graduating students receive an Indiana Core 40 Diploma and college credits or industry certification. Plans are under way to open in September at: 3438 169th Street in Hammond, a site that is easily accessible by bus route.

Goodwill’s President, Debie Coble, is pleased with this initiative for our community. “There are more than 51,000 adults in Lake County who are without a high school diploma. The Excel Center is a response to that need,” she said. “Our goal is to focus on career and college readiness including a Life Coaching staff who work with students to keep them engaged in their learning.”

The Excel Center offers each student an opportunity for greater success as well as workforce development for surrounding communities.  Graduates are better prepared to be productive employees and enhance the companies that hire them.

“Having a well-skilled workforce is essential to the continued economic development of our community. The Excel Center provides an opportunity for people to earn credentials and develop skill sets that will have a positive impact on their futures. Their growth and development will also strengthen the workforce system and ensure opportunity,” says Dave Ryan, Executive Director, Lakeshore Chamber.

Goodwill LEADS, Inc. is a non-profit entity affiliated with Goodwill Industries of Michiana, Inc. It was formed to develop The Excel Center and advance the educational opportunities in the communities it serves.  The acronym LEADS features key goals for this organization: Learn – Educate – Advance – Develop – Students; and its mission is to provide adult high school students with diplomas, support and career potential.
