Wightman highlights a year of expansion and collaboration

Posted

The last 12 months have included many successful projects and company highlights for Wightman, a full-service consulting firm based in the Great Lakes region. True to its motto of “it’s all about people,” the company continued to provide architecture, civil engineering, surveying, and related specialty services to governments, businesses, and institutions in Indiana, Michigan, and beyond. With more than 200 members on its team, Wightman’s goal is to enrich and support the communities it serves with people-centric services and information.

In November 2023, the firm opened its third Indiana location in Portage with local architect Scott Falk at the helm. The new office has increased Wightman’s accessibility throughout Northwest Indiana, offers enhanced collaboration between staff and clients, and supports Wightman’s commitment to serving the education, government, commercial, and energy sectors.

The Portage office is Wightman’s ninth location overall joining existing Indiana locations in Plymouth and South Bend as well as Michigan locations including Allegan, Benton Harbor, Hastings, Kalamazoo, Royal Oak, and Southgate.

A few months later, Wightman grew again to add its 10th location with the acquisition of Gouloff-Jordan Surveying and Design, Inc., a respected firm in Fort Wayne.

Original company founders Tim Gouloff and Todd Jordan, along with survey staff, joined the Wightman team in January 2024. The resulting collaboration combines Wightman's longstanding presence and multi-disciplinary services with Gouloff-Jordan's survey expertise, leveraging the strengths and capabilities of both organizations to deliver even greater value to the evolving needs of the Fort Wayne community and beyond.

With more than 27 years of service to Wightman, Steve Carlisle, P.E., was appointed as the firm’s new President in April. Carlisle’s appointment reflects Wightman’s continued commitment to delivering client-centered solutions, fostering client relationships, and maintaining its position as a leader in the AEC industry.

Outgoing President Matt Davis applauded Carlisle’s selection and his extensive background and various leadership positions within the firm.

Carlisle began his career as a civil engineer before being promoted to project manager and client representative roles. In 2015, he was named Director of Engineering and was appointed to the role of Government Sector Leader in 2022. Carlisle also served on the firm’s Board of Directors from 2012-2023 in various positions, including several terms as Chairman.

The Stevensville, Michigan, resident is a graduate of Michigan State University, having earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering. He serves on the Board of Directors for the American Council of Engineering Companies/Michigan and Southwest Michigan First, is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, and is a licensed Professional Engineer.

As Wightman’s President, Carlisle oversees all aspects of operations and business development to achieve the firm’s strategic plan.

The company welcomed Mark McRobie as its new Government Market Sector Leader in June. The strategic addition aims to strengthen Wightman’s government sector capabilities and expand its footprint in the public infrastructure market.

McRobie brings over 16 years of experience in business development and marketing to the firm, particularly in the public sector. His career is marked by a consistent track record of winning large-scale government projects and fostering strong relationships with clients.

His responsibilities entail overseeing all aspects of Wightman’s government sector projects, including strategic planning and business development. He works closely with the firm’s talented team of engineers, architects, and surveyors to ensure that Wightman’s projects meet the highest standards of quality and sustainability.

He earned a Master of Business Administration from Charleston Southern University as well as a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Seton Hill University.

In terms of projects and community involvement, Wightman’s work in the area over the last year includes:

  • Bishop Noll Institute’s athletic fields in Hammond. Wightman provided architecture and site development services for the recently completed project.
  • Charter School of the Dunes in Gary. Opened for this school year, Wightman provided architecture and interior design services.
  • Google Data Center in Fort Wayne. Assisting in the creation of a new substation, Wightman provided survey and engineering services to help complete the project and stake 2,300 pilings.
  • Potawatomi Zoo in South Bend. Wightman’s site development services assisted the zoo in relocating the bear den from one side of the zoo to the other for opening earlier this year.
  • St. Margaret’s House in South Bend. Wightman selected this organization for a Giving Tuesday initiative and donated $500.
