Republic Services and bp’s Archaea Energy Celebrate First Landmark RNG Plant in Fort Wayne

Posted

Republic Services and bp’s Archaea Energy celebrate their landmark partnership and the first renewable natural gas (RNG) plant in Fort Wayne. Lightening Renewables’ Fort Wayne plant is the first of 40 projects in the nationwide joint venture, representing the largest portfolio of its kind to date. Future expansion includes another RNG plant in Pimento, Ind. later this year.

Landfill gas, a natural byproduct of the decomposition of waste in landfills, is a form of greenhouse gas. The Fort Wayne plant uses AMD technology to convert this gas into RNG, promoting cleaner air and more sustainable energy compared to traditional fossil fuels.

The plant processes 6,400 cubic feet of landfill gas per minute into RNG—enough to heat over 25,000 homes annually.
