L3Harris, a leading global aerospace, communications, and defense technology company, celebrated the completion of its new space manufacturing facility.
The new TAC4 addition to the L3Harris campus in Fort Wayne positions the company to meet the needs of its aerospace and defense customers for years to come. The expanded 95,000-square-foot facility represents a state-of-the-art engineering and development hub to facilitate a “beginning-to-end” design and fabrication process and includes 41,000 square feet of clean rooms.
The project started in early 2023, when L3Harris partnered with Design Collaborative to create a space tailored for high-tech development. The result is a two-story, purpose-driven facility that supports the engineering, integration, testing, and program management for L3Harris’ missile defense and civil weather programs.
From open offices to fabrication space to clean rooms, every area was carefully planned to maximize visibility, security, cleanliness, and operational flexibility.
The need to meet stringent aerospace industry and customer quality standards was given the highest priority throughout the design and construction process. This includes high-capacity HVAC systems designed to provide reliable, conditioned airflow to support clean-room performance levels; a 2MW diesel emergency generator and a 1,000 KVA uninterruptible power supply (UPS) system to ensure uninterrupted operations for sensitive equipment and processes; and a flexible power grid distribution throughout the facility to support diverse and evolving manufacturing and testing equipment needs.
With an emphasis on operational flow, flexibility, and environmental control, the TAC4 addition positions L3Harris to continue delivering its mission “to innovate relentlessly and deliver capability with the speed, passion and determination that our customers demand in executing their most challenging missions.”
