Indiana Wesleyan University (IWU) and National & Global program have named longtime AAA Hoosier Motor Club senior executive Andy J. Hughes as Dean of the DeVoe School of Business, Technology, and Leadership.

As chief innovation officer of AAA Hoosier Motor Club, Dr. Hughes led vision, strategy and execution for all facets of automotive services, member experience and innovation for more than 450,000 members throughout central Indiana. He pioneered development and launch of a mobile tire replacement program while also creating a licensing option for the AAA Motor Club to license to other clubs throughout North America.

He also created a partnership to deploy Safety Cloud, which protects technicians as they provide roadside service on busy highways and interstates throughout North America. The program sends branded message alerts to oncoming traffic to notify them of a roadside event.

“We are pleased to welcome Dr. Hughes to the Indiana Wesleyan University community and look forward to his leadership and innovative approach to the DeVoe School of Business, Technology and Leadership,” IWU President Dr. Jon Kulaga said. ”Dr. Hughes is the right person to lead the DeVoe School because of his real-world experience as a strategic and innovative business executive and his ability to translate industry needs into academic programs. We are looking forward to his positive impact on the business school.”

Throughout his 30-year professional career at AAA, Dr. Hughes led other transformational projects, including an internal overhaul of AAA’s operations in the areas of technology and employee training and professional development.

“I am deeply appreciative of this opportunity to serve as the Dean of the DeVoe School of Business, Technology and Leadership and to work with my colleagues as we continue to re-imagine business education and its applications to today’s environment,” Dr. Hughes said. “We have an opportunity at IWU-National & Global to serve students who seek to expand their educational horizons while maintaining a Christian ethic.”

The DeVoe School of Business, Technology, and Leadership is a Christ-centered academic community committed to transforming the global marketplace through life-shaping preparation. From associate to doctorate degrees, the DeVoe School offers online and hybrid business programs in several areas, including business administration, cybersecurity, marketing, information technology, accounting, health systems leadership, and organizational leadership, among others. It also offers certificate programs.

“Dr. Hughes’s arrival coincides with our efforts to build on our deep history of online education success by re-calibrating the DeVoe experience for students seeking skills for today’s workplace and for employers who demand an innovative workforce,” said Dr. Eileen Hulme, Chancellor of IWU-National & Global.

Over the next few months, IWU-National & Global officials will continue to identify different ways to create this new innovative approach to business education, including recruitment and retention of essential subject matter experts in business, marketing, technology (AI and cybersecurity), and organizational leadership (followership); development of new degree programs in emerging subject areas; and key partnerships that support the growing need for a thriving, innovative workforce.
