Posted

Indiana University once again increased enrollment to nearly 90,000 students across its campuses this fall. Record interest from new undergraduate students fueled growth at IU Indianapolis, IU Online and IU’s regional campuses, while IU Bloomington welcomed one of the largest and most academically accomplished classes in its history.

“Students choose Indiana University because they see the value of a degree that prepares them for rewarding careers and gives them the skills to meet the workforce needs of Indiana and beyond,” IU President Pamela Whitten said. “At a time when students have more choices than ever, growing enrollment and the academic strength of these new students are a powerful vote of confidence in IU. It reflects the excellence of our faculty, the strength of our research enterprise, and the transformative academic and career-focused experiences available across our campuses and online.”

IU Bloomington

Over 81,000 students applied to IU Bloomington, a 9.6% increase from last year’s record. Strong demand for an IU education resulted in the campus’s second largest and most academically accomplished class ever, with 43% of the incoming class having a 4.0 grade-point average on a 4.0 scale.

For the ninth consecutive year, IU Bloomington enrolled students from all 92 Indiana counties. Nonresident students come from 49 states and Washington, D.C., as well as 50 countries around the world. A majority of beginning undergraduate students are from Indiana.

IU Indianapolis

The IU Indianapolis campus saw a 12.5% increase in enrolled new undergraduate students. Overall enrollment also increased, with a total of 23,145 students attending Indianapolis’ only R1 campus — a Carnegie designation recognizing the nation’s top research institutions.

Regional campuses

IU’s regional campuses continue to expand access to an affordable, workforce-aligned IU education in communities across the state. Providing one of Indiana’s most affordable pathways to a four-year degree, the campuses enrolled 18,216 students this academic year.

New undergraduate student enrollment grew across each campus: by 6% at IU East, 3.6% at IU Kokomo, 6.9% at IU Northwest, 4.5% at IU South Bend and 6.1% at IU Southeast, for a total 5.3% increase to 3,466 new students across the five campuses. New undergraduate enrollment is up 30% since 2022.

Applications to IU’s regional campuses increased 4.7%, indicating increased demand for an affordable four-year degree. Indiana residents account for the vast majority of regional campus enrollment, underscoring IU’s commitment to developing talent and meeting workforce needs across the state.
