Is AI Really Taking Your Job??

Posted

By Susan Ibitz, Human Behavior Hacker, susan@humanbehaviorlab.com.

Alexa, I need milk. Google, the address to know how far we are. Sirius, play KISS. These phrases sound familiar? This is AI.

Humans evolve and grow. AI is not perfect and needs human interaction in order to be functional. It can help us organize and evolve. And now, new jobs related to how we utilize AI are being created. Let’s take a look at what it’s really all about.

AI is not going to replace you. But denying that it’s part of our lives is what can hurt you.

Why AI is “Not There,” Yet

Have you ever used ChatGTP? Here are the problems you will find if you rely 100% on this tech.

It is not accurate. It’s not aware of differences or concepts. It only relies on the information you feed it – vague questions or prompts, resulting in vague and inaccurate information.

AI takes information that is already published online. Imagine making a complete business plan or presentation and your boss runs it online and finds it’s been stolen from another site or person. Good luck recovering from that! Legal consequences are about to start. Writers, artists, and scholars are already raising the subject.

The text comes up robotic, unnatural. There is a noticeable lack of something we call in behavior science as “sentiment.” It’s the human factor to an email, text, or article. The emotional part of each word shared.

Things Tech Will Never Take from Us

A McKinsey study found that people and companies that integrate creativity, understanding, emotional processing, soft skills, and a clear purpose are the entities that are growing.

Guess what? None of these areas are generated by AI.

Example: Why do you buy a toaster? For functionality or decoration? Most toasters spend 23:45 hours on your counter. They are all the same inside. What drew you to buy it is the design and how it makes you feel. I have one popping Darth Vader toast. (Nerd Alert.)

So, we need 10 people with creativity, one engineer, and one machine to make the toaster.

Companies that integrate creativity, analytics, and purpose are delivering at least twice the growth of their peers:

  • Only 7% of companies deliver on the soft skills.
  • For those that employed soft skills, growth rates climbed to more than 12%.
  • CMO’s have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to lead growth, as 78% of CEOs are now banking on CMOs and marketing leaders to drive growth that includes soft skills.
  • A person who studies, uses, and incorporates soft skills makes an extra $1 million in their work life span.

What are soft skills? These are the types of abilities that incorporate anything in the range of communication skills, emotional intelligence, collaboration and teamwork, adaptability, interpersonal skills, and more.

My Personal Assistant, Travel Agent, and Personal Chef

When I need to travel to a new place, I ask AI about the weather, culture, political tendencies, recent events, hot topics, and news. This way, I am ready to have conversations, frame my training or presentation, connect, and create a rapport quickly. More importantly, I know what to avoid.

When traveling, I always check various AI platforms to look for direct flights, check blogs for complaints about airline transfers, carry-on policies, etc., to know if I need to keep my expensive or important things in my backpack and not my luggage. You have no idea how often I’ve had to give a presentation or training without my things because they got lost.

Also, since I am on the road for long periods of time, when I come home, I don’t want to go to eat out or eat delivery food. I always check for healthy recipes I can make with the ingredients I have at home. Millions of people do this because it’s effective and easy.

In short, AI makes our jobs more effective and functional, and it lets us concentrate on more important matters.

Here to Stay

AI is here to stay and is evolving. Companies are creating new positions like Chief AI Officer and others to help them grow, integrate, and not to fall behind. AI is not coming for your job, but it can help you to organize your work faster and develop new ideas and concepts. Those ideas will still need to go through real humans to be effective. All we have to do is learn new skills, learn how to better utilize AI, and learn about other factors that will come along with its increased use in our workplaces.
