In its 25th year the American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk was presented with a check from GM Fort Wayne Assembly / UAW Local 2209 for $28,077, bringing the total amount raised to $121,111 to support the American Cancer Society’s efforts to end breast cancer. More than 775 walkers joined the event.
“The generosity of GM and our workforce inspires me every day,” said Cherry Weiland, assistant plant director of Fort Wayne Assembly. “Giving back to this region is incredibly important to everyone at GM and our partners at the UAW. We understand the positive impact these funds can make in helping the American Cancer Society provide services to patients and help in finding a cure for breast cancer.”
“Over 3500 northeast Indiana residents joined us for the 25th Annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk and we are so grateful to everyone who came out to join us,” said Julie Goodwin, Senior Development Manager for the American Cancer Society. “Every single person who walked with us, donated to Making Strides, or supported a fundraiser for a team helped raise funds for the American Cancer Society to provide more services, more research, and more hope to those who need it the most. Since 1993, the American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer® campaign has united communities, companies, and individuals with a collective goal to end breast cancer as we know it. Over the past two decades, the 2- to 5-mile noncompetitive walks have collectively grown into the nation’s largest and most impactful breast cancer movement – providing a supportive community for courageous breast cancer survivors and metastatic breast cancer thrivers, caregivers, and families alike.
This year, Making Strides Against Breast Cancer® celebrated its 30th anniversary and took place in more than 150 communities nationwide. Making Strides Against Breast Cancer celebrates survivors and thrivers, funds lifesaving breast cancer research and is committed to advancing health equity through programs and services, believing that all people have a fair and just opportunity to live a longer, healthier life free from breast cancer – regardless of how much money they make, the color of their skin, their sexual orientation, gender identity, their disability status, or where they live.
Dollars raised help the American Cancer Society fund innovative breast cancer research; provide education and guidance to help people reduce their risk; and offer comprehensive patient support to those who need it most.
