Coolest AE Projects: Free Energy Overhaul at Lynhurst

Posted

Indiana architects and engineers have a ton of cool projects going on, but we wanted to hear about the ones that got them most excited. So, we put out the call to firms throughout the state for their input on the coolest architecture and engineering projects that have taken place in the last few years.

No requirements in terms of project cost, scale, location, or industry. We simply wanted the experts to tell us about the most exciting and interesting projects they’ve recently worked on. Their responses did not disappoint. Check out what Schmidt Associates shared with us:

Free Energy Overhaul at Lynhurst 7th and 8th Grade Center

Construction Partners:

Lynhurst 7th and 8th Grade Center recently received an energy upgrade expected to save tens of thousands of dollars each year for a grand total cost of zero dollars on the school district’s part.

MSD Wayne Township and Schmidt Associates worked on a Retro-Commissioning (RCx) study for the Lynhurst 7th and 8th Grade Center. Following the RCx study, numerous energy-saving opportunities were identified and implemented by the district.

The upgrades will save roughly $57,500 in utility costs per year. The complete implementation cost was $16,574, which was covered entirely by AES Indiana incentives. AES also covered the cost of the RCx study, making the cost-saving upgrades essentially free.

The facility upgrades included schedule adjustments to significantly reduce run times, heating reductions during unoccupied periods, repairs to existing equipment, and much more.
