Coolest AE Projects: Castle Rock Fire Station #152

Posted

Indiana architects and engineers have a ton of cool projects going on, but we wanted to hear about the ones that got them most excited. So, we put out the call to firms throughout the state for their input on the coolest architecture and engineering projects that have taken place in the last few years.

No requirements in terms of project cost, scale, location, or industry. We simply wanted the experts to tell us about the most exciting and interesting projects they’ve recently worked on. Their responses did not disappoint. Check out what Short Elliott Hendrickson shared with us:

Castle Rock Fire Station #152

Construction Partners:

When the Town of Castle Rock determined it needed a new fire station, SEH provided comprehensive site and building design for a new 13,000-square-foot facility on a 2.7-acre site. The building makes an interesting use of building materials, architectural design, and site details that help to incorporate the facility into the Crystal Valley Ranch community.

The facility provides easy access for emergency response equipment and maintains comfortable living amenities for first responders. The facility features seven private bedrooms set up to accommodate three shifts, and has a full kitchen, pantries, dining, day room, restroom, work area, and fitness spaces. The building also has three double-long bays, a storage mezzanine, a workshop, and a state-of-the-art decontamination space.

SEH worked as a town team member to investigate cost savings and construction alternatives. A pre-engineered metal building structure was utilized to decrease both construction schedule and overall costs.
