Schmidt Associates Names Three New Principals

Three long-time architecture and engineering professionals at Schmidt Associates have been named principals at the long-time Indianapolis architecture and engineering firm.

“It is significant Schmidt Associates has named Ben Bain, Eric Broemel, and Steve Schaecher at the same time, because inviting our associates to be new principal and serve at a top management level isn’t something we do every day,” said Sarah Hempstead, CEO and a principal of the firm. “Ben, Eric, and Steve, through customer service, creativity, and experience have earned the additional role of principal.”

Ben Bain, CPSM

Ben joined Schmidt Associates in 2002 following a career in radio broadcasting. He now engages prospects and clients as the business development principal for the K-12 education studio. He works with educators ensuring the best for their students in often challenging conditions. Ben studied at Yale University and Leningrad State University.

Eric Broemel, PE, CEM

Eric is a certified professional engineer, a certified energy manager and Schmidt Associates’ engineering quality manager. Eric attended Pike High School and graduated in 1987 from Purdue University with a mechanical engineering degree. Eric came to Schmidt Associates in 2012. Much of his work involves educational facilities. He engineers buildings to be as energy efficient as possible allowing more money to go to the classroom to assist students and teachers.

Steve Schaecher, AIA, LEED AP, CDT

Steve is senior project architect and Schmidt Associates’ architectural quality manager. Born in Columbus and later relocating to St. Joseph, MI, he came to Schmidt Associates in 1990 after graduating from Ball State University’s College of Architecture and Planning. A significant example of his work is the Penrose On Mass project in downtown Indianapolis. He is also a published author of several architectural humor books.
