Chiropractic Firm Breaks Ground in Valpo

Porterfield Family Chiropractic recently broke ground on their new facility located on the corner of Route 2 and Clark Drive in Valparaiso, IN. The new building will allow the six-year old company to own (rather than lease) its space and will increase its size from 1,300 square feet to 5,200 square feet. The new location will also allow Dr. Ryan Porterfield to add veterinary chiropractic services.

The SBA 504 loan program allowed Dr. Ryan to put just 10% down on the building and will provide him with a 20-year fixed interest rate.

“The Porterfield Chiropractic construction project is an great example of how the RDC works cooperatively with borrower and bank financing to leverage a 20 year fixed rate to make a project happen and assist a business in the early years of growth and development,” stated Rex Richards, President of the Valparaiso Chamber and Economic Development Corporation.

Kent Mishler of Horizon Bank partnered with the RDC in financing the project.

“The Porterfield’s planning and due diligence that they had put into this project impressed me. They had invested considerable time and resources in this project. In addition, myself and Horizon are very excited to grow and be a part of a long-term relationship with the Porterfield’s, both business and personally,” he said.

Dr Ryan and his wife Elisha spent a good deal of time choosing the community and the exact property that would best suit their future plans. Constructing a building is a long-term (and expensive) decision that should not be taken lightly. In the end, they are both thrilled with the results.

“Ryan and I have been so impressed at the synergies that are present in Northwest Indiana to help our small business goals come to fruition,” remarked Elisha. “From Erica Dombey of the RDC meeting with us almost two years ago, to Kent Mishler at Horizon Bank partnering with us on financing, Rex Richards of the Valpo Chamber and Economic Development Corp giving us some ideas about Valparaiso, and to Lorri Feldt and Gary Brownlee at the ISBDC assisting with projections, Northwest Indiana has been so friendly to us – a real ‘how can we help’ attitude.”

Finally, Elisha extolled the benefits of Northwest Indiana, “It is clear to me that the Region, and especially Valparaiso, is a great place to grow our business. There is an energy here that is so amazing and we’re so excited to continue to be a part of it.”
